Where Art, History & Indiana Heritage Come to Life

The Haan Museum of Indiana Art preserves, celebrates, and shares Indiana's extraordinary artistic heritage with visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Housed in a magnificent 16,000-square-foot mansion originally built as the Connecticut State Building for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, we are home to the finest collection of Indiana art in the world — including masterworks by T.C. Steele and the Hoosier Group, hundreds of Indiana ceramics, bronze and stone sculptures, and a premier collection of 19th-century American furniture.

Our mission is to engage, educate, and inspire diverse communities through the beauty and history of Indiana art — connecting visitors to the stories, people, and places that have shaped the Hoosier State.

Something

The Haan is home to artwork by historic and contemporary Indiana artists, including an impressive collection of works by TC Steele and the Hoosier Group. It's all displayed in a historic mansion that was built in 1904 for the St. Louis World's Fair. The collection also includes antique American Renaissance Revival furniture from the 1860s. Outside you can explore the Sculpture Garden and hike on our wooded nature trail behind the museum.

What Visitors Say

On Saturday, December 2nd, my granddaughter and I visited the Haan Museum. What a delightful experience for visitors of all ages.

Janie, TripAdvisor Review

I visited this place with my parents and we all loved it. I lived in New York City for five years and am a frequent museum visitor. This place still awes me because I can see every piece up close.

TripAdvisor Visitor Review

Lafayette is not known for its great tourist draws — but we found the true treasure of Lafayette one Saturday in June. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The museum has a lot of beautiful pieces — not just in paintings but also furniture. Kudos to those who put this all together.

We found the Haan Mansion on TripAdvisor and are so glad that we did! The home itself is stunning and the Haans have filled it with beautiful furnishings and artwork. We spent over two hours there and are already planning to return soon because there is just so much to see. Don’t miss the Sculpture Garden!

Amanda, TripAdvisor Review

What an amazing experience. Mr. and Mrs. Haan were there and shared their passion for the collection as well as various anecdotes regarding the pieces and artists represented. This visit became the highlight of our weekend. What a gift to the community of Lafayette.

Diana, TripAdvisor Review

We look for art museums wherever we travel, and I didn’t read much about the Haan Museum before we arrived. What a surprise to learn the fascinating history of the house, furnishings, and art collection! Beautiful paintings and ceramics, and there’s a small sculpture garden with a nature trail behind the house. Highly recommended!

TripAdvisor Visitor Review

Visitors praise the passionate and knowledgeable volunteers who bring the history and artwork to life, making it a must-see destination for locals and tourists alike.

Google Reviews Summary

My girlfriend and I visited the Haan Museum on Saturday. The collection is lovely and encompasses several different styles. The antique furniture is also particularly interesting, especially the clocks. The volunteer docent was wonderful, greeting everybody who entered and giving us a lovely introduction to the building and its collections.
